Question: What is the difference between an original prescription and a repeat?

Answer:
An original prescription is the document that you receive from the doctor prior to going to the pharmacy to have your first course of medication dispensed. Once a medication has been dispensed by the pharmacy, if your doctor has written that you have more than one course of the medication a repeat prescription will be printed by the pharmacy.

This document contains all of the same details that your original prescription had plus:
  1. It indicates how many times the prescription has been filled
  2. How many more times the prescription can be filled
  3. The date the prescription expires (12 Months from the date the doctor wrote the prescription)
  4. The details of the pharmacy that last filled your prescription
